New to Reception September 2020

Hello and Welcome to St Michael's. We look forward to welcoming you and your child/ren into our St Michael's family in September 2020. We are very excited to be part of your child’s continued learning journey and can't wait to meet you in person.

Starting school for the first time can be a little daunting and we want to make you and your child/ren feel very welcome and 'at home' at St Michael's as quickly as possible. We therefore have asked you to complete an online form and ask that you take a look at the other documents, below, to help make this transition as smooth and informed as possible. If you have any questions about any of these documents, please contact the school office who will be happy to help.

MEDICINES IN SCHOOL

From time to time your child may be well enough to attend school but requires medicine throughout the day. Please click HERE to access the school's Medical Information page and our Medical Policy giving details of when this is possible and what information we need from you.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

We believe that wearing uniform helps to foster a sense of belonging within our school family and reinforces expectations of appropriate dress, self-care and respect for one another.

Our base uniform has been chosen in order to be as simple and inexpensive as possible whilst also being readily available from alternative suppliers.  This should consist of a white polo shirt, grey trousers/shorts or grey skirt/pinafore and in the summer children can opt for a purple gingham dress. This should then be combined with our branded sweatshirt or cardigan. Children are expected to wear black school shoes

 Physical Education

On the days (twice a week) your child has Physical Education (PE) they must come to school dressed in their PE uniform. With this in mind we have carefully designed a super smart PE Uniform which is available to buy through our supplier Chroma Sports.

Our School Book bag is available to purchase through Chroma:

Branded water bottles are available to purchase from the school office for £1.

SCHOOL MILK & FRESH FRUIT/VEG SNACK

Here at St Michael's we will offer your child/ren a mid morning snack, of either a piece of fruit or vegetable and, if you have registered with Cool milk, a cartoon of milk.

By registering your child for our school milk scheme, they will receive a 189ml (third of a pint) carton of semi-skimmed milk every day. This is delivered, fresh and chilled, to their classroom.

Thanks to government subsidies, school milk is free for all under-fives and is subsided at around £15 a term for children aged five or older.

School milk provides your child with essential nutrients such as calcium and protein, for strong, healthy teeth and bones. It is also rehydrating and energy boosting, helping to bridge the long gap between breakfast and lunch so children stay focused.

SCHOOL LUNCHES

Here at St Michael's we offer our children an amazing choice when it comes to a healthy school lunch. Together with our amazing team of cooks and a fantastic menu supplied by our catering supplier VERTAS, we can cater for even our fussiest of eaters.

If your child would like to bring in a packed lunch, that is totally fine. We do however offer not only a hot meal option but also what we call a 'pick n mix' option where your child can create their very own packed lunch by choosing from a variety of options.

We are a nut free school and we do our very best to ensure all allergies are catered for.

As of September 2014, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 at state-funded schools get school meals for free.

Families who receive certain government benefits are also entitled to apply for free school meals for their child(ren).  If you think you might qualify for free school meals please speak to the school office who can help you check. This is well worth doing – you can save hundreds of pounds each year and make sure your child’s having a good lunch.

PARKING

As a local primary school we do not have any dedicated parking for parents. We strongly encourage families to walk, scoot or cycle to and from school wherever possible. We have a large number of cycle racks and scooter pods to encourage this.

However, we know that this is not always possible, and therefore have an understanding with Morrisons for you to be able to use the area of the car park closest to Apollo Avenue.

We would ask that parents use this car park and avoid parking on the local roads for safety reasons but also to maintain a good relationship with our neighbours.

We do monitor this from time to time and hope you understand the need to park considerately and safely at all times.
