“The intent of our PE curriculum is to deliver high-quality lessons that inspire all pupils to lead healthy lives. We aim to provide opportunities for pupils to be physically active and confident, which support their health and wellbeing. We want to provide opportunities to develop competence in a range of physical activities which enable the individual’s character to be developed that helps to embed our values such as resilience and happiness.”
At St Michael’s we strive to be as active as possible, whether that be during our learning day, lunchtime clubs, afterschool clubs, or even promoting outside of school clubs. To achieve this, at the beginning of the year, we introduced a variety of extra-curricular clubs such as: hockey, gymnastics (KS1 and KS2) and basketball, alongside the already existing clubs: table tennis, dance and football. We feel that this selection of clubs provides an opportunity for all children to be involved in a variety of sports focusing on different skills.
We ensure that all the sport the children participate in is engaging, fun and full of progression. Our subject overview can be seen below which demonstrates this. They access a range of sports throughout their lessons, with the helping hands of the Stanground Academy Coaches, who come and support our teaching staff to ensure all the areas of PE is taught to a high standard.
Every year our partnership school Stanground Academy also hosts a variety of school competitions and festivals. We also attend School Games Marks competitions between schools which lead to county competitions.
We have also ensured that swimming is a focus as we aim to have all our children leaving our school being able to swim.
