In Caterpillar Class, we begin our learning journey with wonder, imagination, and a sense of adventure. Our Reception classroom is a nurturing and joyful space where children feel safe, valued, and excited to explore the world around them. Just like caterpillars growing and changing, our children are developing every day — discovering new skills, building friendships, and blossoming into confident learners.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which places play and exploration at the heart of learning. Our approach is child-led and responsive, supporting development across all seven areas of learning. From expressive arts to early maths, every experience is designed to spark curiosity and encourage independence.

A key focus in Caterpillar Class is phonics and early reading. We deliver daily phonics sessions using a structured programme that helps children hear, say, and blend sounds — laying the foundations for confident reading and writing. Our classroom is rich in language, and we share a wide variety of books to inspire a love of stories and storytelling.

Throughout the year, Caterpillars explore numbers, patterns, and problem-solving through hands-on activities that make learning meaningful and fun. We develop physical skills through movement, outdoor play, and fine motor challenges, and we encourage creativity through music, art, and imaginative role play. Our children are also encouraged to ask questions, investigate, and make sense of their surroundings — building a strong foundation for understanding the world.

We work in close partnership with families to ensure every child feels supported and celebrated. In Caterpillar Class, we aim to create a warm, inclusive environment where children can thrive — emotionally, socially, and academically — and where their first steps into school life are filled with joy, discovery, and transformation.
