At Ladybirds, we believe that every child is a unique and capable learner, full of curiosity and potential. Our Reception classroom is a warm, welcoming environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to begin their school journey. We foster a love of learning through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences, all carefully aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.

Our approach is child-centred and responsive, encouraging independence, creativity, and confidence. We support development across all seven areas of learning, with a strong focus on communication, personal growth, and foundational skills. Children are encouraged to express themselves, build friendships, and explore the world around them through hands-on activities and imaginative play.

A key part of our daily routine in Ladybirds is phonics and early reading. We follow a structured phonics programme that helps children learn to hear, say, and blend sounds, laying the groundwork for confident reading and writing. Our classroom is rich in language and literature, and we share a wide variety of books to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Throughout the year, Ladybirds explore numbers, patterns, and problem-solving in fun and practical ways. They develop physical skills through movement and fine motor activities, and express themselves through art, music, and imaginative play. We also encourage children to ask questions, investigate, and make sense of their surroundings — building a strong foundation for understanding the world.

We work in close partnership with families to ensure every child feels supported and celebrated. In Ladybirds Class, we aim to create a joyful, inclusive space where children can thrive — emotionally, socially, and academically — and where their first steps into school life are filled with wonder, discovery, and delight.
