Medical Advice
Absence
Please contact the school before 9.30am to advise if your child is going to be absent due to sickness. If you have any doubts concerning your child's health before school starts in the morning please contact the school office.
Medical Appointments
We kindly request that you try to arrange medical appointments outside of school hours. However, we appreciate this is not always possible, so please ensure that you send a copy of the appointment letter to attendance@stmichaelschurchschool.co.uk so that the absence can be recorded as authorised.
Guidelines for Absence
Please click on the link below for infection control guidance for more common ailments/conditions. Please note that for all sickness and diarrhoea related illnesses, the child should be absent from school for a minimum of 48 hours. An early return will result in parents being contacted to take their child home.
Illness in School
Should your child be taken ill at school, you will be contacted and asked to come and collect them immediately. If we are unable to contact you, and it is felt that the situation warrants it, we will contact your child's alternative emergency contacts.
Up to date emergency contact details and telephone numbers are essential.
Accidents in School
All accidents in school will be recorded on Medical Tracker. A report detailing the incident, will be emailed direct to the parent. In the event of your child having an accident at school that requires emergency medical attention we will contact you immediately. If we cannot contact you, your child will be taken to hospital by a representative of the school acting in loco parentis.
Medicines in School
If, in exceptional circumstances, it is necessary for children to take medicine during school time, the following procedure applies:

Please complete the form below that will sent through to the School Office.

Please hand the medication in to the School Office where it will be stored safely.

Whilst every effort will be made to make sure a child gets his/her medicine, we cannot accept responsibility if it is forgotten. Older children should be able to remember to ask for it.

If you are at all anxious that it will be forgotten, you are welcome to come into school and administer the medicine yourself.

The medicine must be prescribed by a doctor and be clearly labelled with:-
a). the child's name
b). the name of the medicine
c). the dosage required
d). when the dose is to be taken -
The medicine should be collected from the School Office, by the parent/carer at the end of the school day.
If your child receives regular medication to manage a life long condition please contact the school office so that a Care Plan can be agreed between the parents/carers, the school and any other medical professionals involved in your child's care.
Medical Conditions
If your child has been diagnosed with a life long condition then please let us know immediately. Depending on the condition, you may be asked to provide a letter from your GP or consultant to confirm the diagnosis. This may result in you working with the school and other relevant professionals to write a Health Care Plan for your child to ensure that we are able to offer the best possible care and support for them whilst they are in school.
Asthma
If your child has asthma, they should have their own inhaler in school, which will be stored in your child's classroom so it is easily accessible for them. We will administer the inhalers if we have your permission. This again means completing a consent form. If your child uses their inhaler whilst in school, you will receive notification from Medical Tracker. If your child uses an inhaler it is up to you to check that it is usable and in date.
Allergies
Please ensure that the school has up to date information with regards to your child(ren)'s allergies so that we can safeguard them whilst in school. Please remember that we are a NUT FREE SCHOOL, this includes all food items sent in for snack and lunches.
Management of Headlice
Headlice are extremely common in close-knit environments such as schools. Please visit the NHS website for information on the management of headlice.
